The goal of this blog is to serve as a forum for discussing the many aspects that the City of Chicago, the State of Illinois and surrounding area must consider regarding bidding (or not) for the 2016 Summer Olympics.

it is a waste of money
Anonymous,
Thanks for your input but why do you think it is a "waste of money" as you stated previously?
I would love to see the Olympics in Chicago! What a once in a lifetime event for a city!
it would be great for the economy an dit would be really cool to see the games
i don't think it would be a wast of money i think that a lot of people would gain money
Pros
- Revitalization of Chicago's South Shore
- Increased new housing built
- Excitement of the Olympics, international visitors, etc
- Huge tourism dollars for the cities hotels, museums, restaurants, investors, universities.
- Beautiful well thought master planning for the south shore skyline, instead of 100 developers each doing their own thing like south loop.
Cons
- Traffic
- Inevitable corruption linked to either the mob or Daley, or both
- Construction dust and ugliness for several years during construction
- Chicago will not likely get the bid, since the world sentiment is so Anti-American right now.
Who is going to benefit from a Chicago Olympics? Certainly not the average citizen. He will have to deal with all the logistical inconveniences for years and will ultimately wind up paying all the freight when Chicago 2016 can't live up to its absurdly optimistic projections.
